In the wake of the attempt by some forces within the Peoples Democratic Party to throw the 2023 presidential ticket of the party open, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has come out to say he is not opposed to the north retaining power come 2023.

Governor Wike said this in a radio interview with the BBC Pidgin at the government house in Port Harcourt.

According to the governor, if zoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket to the North will guarantee victory for the party come 2023 general election, he will support the decision.

He however ruled out the possibility of him supporting any person from Rivers State or someone of southern Nigerian extraction as president, as long as the person belongs to the All Progressives Congress.

He further asserted that the PDP is keeping the strategies for the 2023 election close to their chest, and that the party is yet to make a final decision on where the presidential ticket will be zoned to because stakeholders are still strategizing the best options that will guarantee the party’s victory at the polls.

“I am from Southern part of Nigeria. I will be happy if power returns to the South, but if PDP will win the 2023 presidential election by zoning the presidential ticket to the North, I will not be opposed to it”.

Wike maintained that the PDP is ready to do all that is necessary to take over power at the center from the APC come 2023.
