The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has joined other well meaning Nigerians in rejoicing with the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III on the occasion of his 10th Anniversary on the Sultanate throne.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and public affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan, the Speaker also felicitated with the government and people of Sokoto state on the momentous occasion, describing the 10 years of the reign of the 20th Sultan as eventful and beneficial to the country and humanity.

“May I note that in the last 10 years on the throne of his forefathers, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has demonstrated exemplary leadership and lived above board while remaining as the rallying point of all his subjects”.

“As a spiritual leader and custodian of culture and tradition, the Sultan has played significant roles in the promotion of inter- faith dialogue and harmony, socio-cultural co-operation, communal living and peaceful co-existence among diverse peoples”, the speaker observed.

Dogara also described the Sultan as a bridge builder, helping to bring together people of diverse persuasions and backgrounds to live in peace, unity, tolerance and harmony, and prayed that Almighty God continue to grant the traditional ruler excellent health, courage, wisdom and many years of selfless service to Nigeria and humanity.

“On this occasion, on behalf of the leadership and the entire members of the House of Representatives, I join innumerable well wishers in saluting his Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, whose sterling leadership disposition, demonstrable and abiding faith in the unity, peace and progress of Nigeria combine to make him one of the most respected religious and traditional leaders of our time”, the speaker concluded.
