1,000 Athletes Ready For NOGIG 2018

Over 1,000 athletes from 13 companies are  competing  in the 2018 Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, which began on Sunday at the Chevron Recreation Centre, Gbagada, Lagos.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Aminu Zaria, told  reporters  that 11 sports would be presented at the week long event series expected to end on the 24th of February

The sportsto be featured are  football, squash, table tennis, scrabble, chess, snookers, swimming and golf. Others are basketball, 100m and  4x100m relays.

“The events will run simultaneously in four locations – Chevron Gbagada, Ikoyi Club 1938, Lakowe Golf Club and the Teslim Balogun Stadium,” he said.

Zaria added that this year’s Games would witness an increase in the number of participating companies.

He said, “They are NNPC, Shell, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Total, Erotone and NCDMB. Others are DPR, SEPLAT, NLNG, DPR, PTI and OVH.”

The 2018 NOGIG is the 17th in the series and has grown from a single-sport to a multi-sports event.

Vice-president of the Games’ Local Organising Committee, Alex Onumbu, said NOGIG provided a platform for interaction and connectivity among players in the industry.
